Marriage Monday: The Blessings Book

We can’t believe it’s already June! This year is flying by! It seems like just yesterday we were making our plans and goals for 2018, and now we are already halfway through the year.

We were talking about how fast this year is going, and then we started reflecting on all of the things that have happened this year. This has been a crazy year so far, with both good and bad things.

During our conversation, we started taking the time to consider all of the blessings we’ve received this year. We aren’t going to list them all here, because it would take too long.

“Most of us never stop to consider our blessings; rather, we spend the day only thinking about our problems. But since you have to be alive to have problems, be grateful for the opportunity to have them” – Bernie Siegel

Here is the thing, we’re busy people. Everyone is busy. We’ve all got our hands full trying to juggle everything life throws our way.

We get so wrapped up in surviving every day, we don’t take time to look back (we are culprits of this too).

This is how we’ve tried to break this trend = blessing book. Yep, we have a notebook where we write down and track all of the great things God has given us.

These things could be big or small. We have everything from raises at work, to meeting new friends, and even just fun moments that we are thankful for.

Just the other day, we sat down and went back through some of the entries. It was nice to see how our lives have changed and see that we’ve always been taken care of. We realized it had been almost six months since we took the time to write in our blessing book. Woah! We need to be more intentional about that.

You don’t need an elaborate system or fancy notebook, just get a cheap legal pad and start writing.

It’s easy to fall into the “woe as me” trap and get stuck there. Seeing all of the great things that have been given to you can help you stay positive and trusting in the Lord.
