We LOVE budgets! Okay, maybe we don’t love them, but we know how important they are.
If you’ve ever heard anything from Dave Ramsey (yes, we talk about him all the time), then you know that a budget is the foundation of a healthy financial life. When you’re planning a wedding, it’s easy to get swept up in the magic of the event.
The problem is, the magic can lead you to a quick hole of debt. That’s not a great way to start your new life together.
We have a couple of ways you can have your magic day without maxing out any credit cards.
First thing is to talk about how much you want to spend and MAKE YOUR BUDGET! Talk to each of your families to see how much they are willing to contribute, or how much you are willing and able to spend as a couple.
Talking about your spending limits for each wedding item is a great start, but you need to put it on a budget – otherwise, there is NO WAY you’re going to stick to those limits.
Yes, building a wedding budget sounds boring, awful, and so unmagical, but we promise it’s one of the wisest things you can do! We love our brides and grooms to be – and we want this planning process to be as fun as possible, which is why we went ahead and built the budget for you!
All you have to do is put in your email here, and we will send it straight to you. It’s nothing confusing or fancy, just a simple spreadsheet to get you started and an idea of what you might spend in South Carolina.
When we were planning our wedding, we were VERY mindful of how much we were spending on everything. We tried to save money in different areas. If we hadn’t been tracking our wedding expenses with a budget, WHO KNOWS how much we would have spent.
The best part is, the more money you save, the more you can spend on your honeymoon or toward buying a house.
After you’ve built your wedding budget, make sure you’re categories are realistic. Get some quotes from different wedding photographers, caterers, florists, venues, etc. You might see that you didn’t budget nearly enough or that you have room to save more $$$.
Weddings are a magical day, but you shouldn’t be paying off your wedding for the next 5 years after the wedding. With just a little planning and budgeting, your wedding can be the perfect day without the mountain of debt.
At the bottom of this page, we have a screenshot of our wedding budgeting tool. As you can see, it’s not extremely complicated. It’s just a basic form with simple math – but it’s VERY important.
Even if you aren’t spending thousands of dollars on a dress and a venue, those small expenses can quickly add up. Next thing you know, you’ve spent more than double what you had.
