Through our almost three years of marriage, we’ve been beyond blessed. We have a home we love and we never go hungry. Over the past couple of weeks, we have had something pressing on our hearts. We know our cups are overflowing with blessings, but we don’t feel like we are giving back enough. We are going to get a little vulnerable here…
We’ve started feeling guilty for not giving back more. Sure, we give to our church but is that really enough? Recently we’ve been talking about ways we can start giving back to the community and help those around us.
Acts 20:35 “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
One way we want to start being more giving is with photography, but that has to be a delicate balance. We want to bless people, especially those who are close to us, but where do we draw the line while trying to grow a business and gain credibility with people?
We want to donate our time and (Katie’s) skill, but our business won’t thrive if we are only trying to bless others instead of putting attention on treating photography like a business.
So, where does this leave us? Well, last year, Katie said something that has stuck with both of us, “I want to be able to grow this business and become consistent with our pricing structure so that we can seriously bless at least one person every year.” This is something we have almost made into a company goal.
This could take many forms. Maybe one year we are able to give a free shoot to a loving family with a newborn, or maybe to a family with elderly grandparents. In the future, it could be to give free wedding coverage to a wonderful couple who we feel we are being led to bless. That’s the ultimate goal! We have heard Katelyn James talk before about this very topic: “Be strict so that you can be a blessing”. Katelyn goes on to say:
We know we’ve been blessed beyond measure, and we are just looking for ways to share in our blessings.
