If you’ve been around a while, you may have seen our Marriage Monday blog posts. This is something that started as a desire to share more about our own marriage and things we are learning. It turned into a desire to pour into other marriages!

We are passionate about photographing couples and weddings, of course. But we care even more about thriving marriages. We are here for our brides and grooms beyond the wedding day and we are cheering for your marriage! That’s why we have decided to start a blog series in an interview format this year called Marriage Stories. We will post every other week on Marriage Monday with an interview from couples that we look up to as well as our recent wedding clients. We will still be writing and sharing every other week about our own marriage too.

How long have you been married?

4.5 years

Tell us your love story! How did you meet?

We met the first week of college! We were assigned the same freshman intro group and met officially on a service project together. A few months later we started dating and have been together ever since!

What’s your favorite memory from your wedding day?

Our favorite memory from our wedding day was our first look together. We did it privately before the ceremony and we each had gifts to exchange with one another. It was a sweet moment, just the two of us.

What has been the most surprising thing about marriage?

The most surprising thing about marriage has been realizing how selfish you truly are. Both Chandler and I put a lot of work into our marriage. It’s not easy! And being selfish is so natural to the human nature. With a lot of prayer and self examining, our marriage has been molded daily into the beautiful gift that it is truly meant to be. You have to be so intentional though!

What has been the biggest adjustment/challenge in marriage?

The biggest challenge has been co-managing a housiehold together! Making descisions completely together for our family, finances, future, and our children is very important to us. We work hard to be on the same page about everything so communication is so important. Making sure we are both well informed and agree on all aspects of our life together. There is a lot of talking involved!

What has been your favorite part of being married?

Our favorite part of being married is the constant companionship. We absolutely love waking up to each other (our best friends) every day!

What’s your best piece of advice for newlyweds?

The best advice we would give newlyweds is to communicate to each other and agree on the descisions you make, then be able to stand up for those descisions. You will get so many different opinions about what is best for your marriage, however, it is your life and relationship. Family and friends mean well but ultimately it doesn’t matter what they think at all. It’s about your new life with your spouse. You do what is best for your family.

Anything else you would like to add?

We are a work in progress! And having 2 daughters in less than a year has really grown our love and appreciation for one another. Marriage is work but it is such a wonderful blessing!!!!
