A Black Tie Spring Wedding with Touches of Baby Blue

On March 29, 2025, Charles Stambaugh and Sydney Greenway celebrated their wedding at the elegant Hotel Hartness in Greenville, South Carolina. This venue, nestled against the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, offers a blend of Southern charm and modern luxury, making it a perfect backdrop for their black-tie affair.

We first met Sydney and Charles when we had the opportunity to photograph their proposal in December of 2023.

One of the most touching parts of the day happened before the ceremony, when Charles and Sydney chose not to share a first look but instead exchanged handwritten letters. Each quietly took a moment to read the other’s words in private—an intimate pause amidst the buzz of the day that allowed them to connect and reflect before walking down the aisle.

The Ceremony

The ceremony itself took place in the breathtaking courtyard at the back of Hotel Hartness, a space that feels like a hidden garden oasis. Framed by an exquisite floral archway designed by Rachel Deneroy Designs, the scene was nothing short of magical. Guests were greeted by rows of fresh white and green florals, with delicate blue anemones woven throughout—a meaningful nod to Sydney’s sister, who used the same flower in her own wedding years ago. This subtle detail brought a beautiful sense of continuity and connection to their family’s love story.

Sydney and Charles were supported by a large, joyful wedding party, adding energy and personality to the day. The entire celebration embraced timeless elegance with a black-tie theme, elevated by lush floral designs and thoughtful touches throughout the venue.

As the sun set and the party moved inside, the celebration was just getting started. Java Band, known for their infectious energy and wide-ranging sound, lit up the reception with live music that kept the dance floor packed all night. From heartfelt toasts to spontaneous dance circles, every moment was filled with laughter, love, and pure joy. Their presence ensured that the dance floor remained packed and the celebration lively throughout the evening.

Charles and Sydney’s wedding was the perfect blend of sophistication, sentimentality, and celebration—a day they (and their guests) will never forget. With a dream venue, a perfect spring day, and a love that radiated in every detail, it was truly a wedding for the ages.
