The Cliffs at Glassy Mountain Chapel Elopement Photographer

I’m so excited to share with you my journey as a photographer at The Cliffs at Glassy Mountain Chapel. Nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this venue holds a special place in my heart, especially when it comes to capturing intimate elopements.

Falling in Love with The Cliffs

Let me start by saying that my love affair with The Cliffs at Glassy Mountain began long before I ever picked up a camera. There’s something truly magical about this place—the way the sunlight dances through the trees, the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze, and the panoramic views that stretch for miles. It’s a photographer’s dream come true!

Capturing Intimate Moments at Glassy Mountain Chapel

As an elopement photographer, I have the incredible privilege of witnessing some of the most intimate moments between couples. There’s a certain magic that comes with elopements—the freedom to focus solely on each other, without any distractions or expectations. And when you add the stunning backdrop of The Cliffs into the mix, you’ve got a recipe for pure romance.

Why I Love Glassy Mountain Chapel Elopements

One of the things I love most about photographing elopements at The Cliffs is the emphasis on authenticity. There’s no need for elaborate setups or staged poses here—just two people, madly in love, saying “I do” against the backdrop of nature’s beauty.

It’s about capturing the raw emotions, the stolen glances, and the genuine moments that make each love story unique.

One of the joys of being a photographer at The Cliffs is discovering hidden gems tucked away in the mountains. From secluded overlooks with panoramic views to winding trails that lead to secret waterfalls, there’s always something new to explore and photograph. It’s like a treasure hunt, with each click of the shutter revealing another piece of the puzzle.

Creating Lasting Elopment Memories

At the heart of it all, my goal as a photographer is to create lasting memories for my clients. Whether it’s a quiet moment shared during the ceremony, a spontaneous dance under the stars, or a stolen kiss against the backdrop of a mountain sunset, these are the moments that will be cherished for a lifetime. And knowing that I played a small part in capturing those memories? Well, it’s truly humbling.

Wedding Vs. Glassy Chappel Wedding Elopment?

I get this question a lot – what’s the difference between a “traditional wedding” or an elopement. Here is what I’ve found:

1. Size and Scale:

Elopement: Elopements are typically intimate affairs involving only the couple or a very small group of close friends and family members, often fewer than 10 people. They tend to be more spontaneous and focused on the couple’s love and commitment to each other rather than on elaborate ceremonies or receptions.

Traditional Wedding: Traditional weddings, on the other hand, are larger-scale events involving extended family, friends, and sometimes hundreds of guests. They often have more formal ceremonies, receptions with dinner and dancing, and MUCH more.

2. Location:

Elopement: Elopements offer the flexibility to choose non-traditional venues such as secluded beaches, mountaintops (like the Glassy Mountain Chapel), forests, or even city landmarks. The location is often chosen for its scenic beauty and significance to the couple, allowing them to exchange vows in a setting that holds personal meaning. This is one of the biggest reasons our couples choose elopements.

Traditional Wedding: Traditional weddings are commonly held in churches, synagogues, or other places of worship, as well as banquet halls, hotels, or other wedding venues. These venues are often selected based on their capacity to accommodate a larger guest list and provide amenities for ceremonies and receptions.

3. Ceremony:

Elopement: Elopement ceremonies are usually simple and intimate, focusing solely on the couple’s vows to each other. They may involve personalized rituals or exchanges of vows, rings, or other meaningful tokens. Elopement ceremonies can be as short or as elaborate as the couple desires, with the emphasis on privacy and authenticity.

Traditional Wedding: Traditional wedding ceremonies often follow a prescribed format dictated by cultural or religious traditions.

They may include rituals such as processions, readings, prayers, and ceremonial acts like the exchange of rings, vows, or other symbolic gestures. The ceremony is usually officiated by a religious leader or authorized officiant. Of course, this is not always true – a “traditional wedding” does not have to follow any prescribed script, but they typically do.

4. Attire and Decor:

Elopement: Elopement attire tends to be more casual and reflective of the couple’s personal style. Couples may choose to wear anything from formal wedding attire to casual attire or even themed costumes. Decorations are often minimal, with the natural beauty of the surroundings serving as the only decorations.

Traditional Wedding: Traditional weddings often involve elaborate attire for the couple, wedding party, and guests, including formal dresses, tuxedos, suits, and bridesmaid dresses.

5. Focus:

Elopement: Elopements are primarily focused on the couple’s love and commitment to each other. They offer an opportunity for the couple to celebrate their relationship in a meaningful and intimate way, free from the pressures and expectations of a larger wedding.

Traditional Wedding: Traditional weddings are often seen as social events involving family and friends. While they celebrate the couple’s love, they also serve as an opportunity for families to come together, socialize, and dance.

While elopements and traditional weddings both celebrate love and commitment, they differ in terms of size, scale, location, ceremony, attire, and focus. Whether you choose to elope or have a traditional wedding ultimately depends on your personal preferences, values, and priorities as a couple.
