Planning your engagement session in Greenville, SC and wondering where to go? We’ve got you covered! Greenville is bursting with beautiful, photo-worthy locations that will make your engagement pictures truly shine. As photographers (and locals) who have shot all over the Upstate, we’re spilling the tea on our favorite Greenville engagement photo spots. From lush parks to urban gems, these locations are guaranteed to be picture-perfect backdrops for you and your sweetie. Let’s count down some top spots – and share a few tips to make the most of each!
What We Love: Waterfalls, blooming gardens, stone pathways, and that sleek suspension bridge – all in one place. We can capture you two cuddled on a picnic blanket with the falls behind you, walking hand-in-hand across Liberty Bridge, and stealing a kiss under a canopy of trees. There are little hidden nooks (like the “Medusa tree,” a large twisted tree that’s super cool for framing a shot) and plenty of open grassy areas too. In spring, flowers add pops of color; in autumn, the foliage is gorgeous.
Tips: Falls Park is popular (it’s not uncommon to see multiple photo sessions happening). To avoid crowds in your pics, consider a weekday or aim for sunrise/early morning when it’s quieter. Late afternoon golden hour is dreamy here, but expect more onlookers. Wear comfy shoes to walk between spots (you can swap into heels for the actual photos if you want).
And don’t be afraid to get a little adventurous – we might pose you on rocks by the water’s edge or sitting on that famous curved bench on Liberty Bridge. Trust us, the results are worth it! (Fun fact: Falls Park is where my husband proposed to me, so I may be biased, but every photo I’ve taken there has a sprinkle of that magic!)
What We Love: The Furman Bell Tower reflecting in the lake is an iconic Greenville-area view. We adore doing photos on the lake’s edge or even on the little pier/dock with the bell tower in the background – it’s especially beautiful at sunset when the sky turns pink over the water. The Rose Garden near the amphitheater is perfect in late spring/early summer when blooms are out – imagine strolling through rows of roses or sitting on the garden bench for a sweet pose. The campus also has some lovely older buildings with columns and brick (like the library or chapel) that give a timeless, elegant feel to photos.
Tips: Furman is big, so plan for a bit of walking or a short drive between spots on campus. We often start by the lake, then hit the garden, then move to the academic buildings if time allows. Timing is everything – golden hour by the lake = chef’s kiss. Watch out for the sun’s position; earlier in the day, it can be bright, so later afternoon is ideal. Also, check Furman’s schedule – if it’s graduation weekend or move-in day, campus will be busy (and maybe less accessible). Usually evenings and weekends are pretty open for photos. Lastly, fun idea: bring a blanket and pop a bottle of bubbly by the lake for some cute celebratory shots (just be sure to clean up after and keep it low-key). Furman security is chill but we want to keep that good rep for future photogs!
What We Love: The Lake Placid area in the park is fantastic for photos – there’s a charming stone and wooden bridge over a portion of the lake that makes for a romantic setting (especially with fall leaves reflecting on the water). The lake’s edge has little docks and plenty of tall trees around. We can capture reflections in the water on a still day, or playful shots of you skipping stones or dipping toes in (if you’re game!).
Beyond the lake, the park’s trails with towering pines and hardwoods create a quiet, intimate feel. We’ve done lovely shots on the ampitheater steps (cool stonework) and on the trail boardwalks. As golden hour hits, peeking sunlight through the trees adds a magical glow to your photos.
Tips: Remember there is a small entrance fee to state parks (about $6 per person) – totally worth it for the location. Wear casual outfits and shoes suitable for some light walking on possibly uneven ground. If you want to dress up (flowy dresses look amazing in the woods!), just bring sneakers to change into for moving spot to spot. Weekdays or early mornings are almost empty here; weekends can have families and hikers, but the park is large, we can always find a secluded nook.
One thing: cell service can be spotty, so plan meet-up points with your photographer in advance (“Meet at the main parking by the lake at 5pm,” etc.). Lastly, consider the seasons – in fall, Paris Mountain is breathtaking with oranges and reds. In winter, the trees are barer but you get clearer mountain views and still a nice rustic feel (plus, fewer bugs!). In summer, it’s lush and green – maybe bring bug spray just in case.
What We Love: On Trade Street, we love using the old brick buildings and alleyways for a vintage-urban look. There’s a particular teal-colored door and an ivy-covered wall that I often gravitate to – pops of color and texture! If you’re into a slightly retro or rustic feel, Greer’s downtown has that in spades. Then, over at the park, the gazebo and pond area are so pretty around sunset.
There’s a small waterfall feature and walking paths lined with crepe myrtles. The open grassy areas are perfect for playful shots (piggyback rides, twirls, you name it). If you time it right, you might even catch the fountain at City Park lit up in the evening – a cool backdrop for a dip-and-kiss shot.
Tips: Greer is generally quiet, but check if any events are happening (they do farmers markets and occasional festivals). Evening weekdays are usually tranquil. You can plan to do half your session on Trade Street (maybe starting around an hour or so before sunset while there’s still good light hitting the buildings), then head to the park for golden hour and dusk.
If you have a pet, Greer City Park is very dog-friendly for including furbabies in some photos (don’t forget the leash and treats!). Also, Greer has some fantastic wall murals – ask your photographer, they might know a few hidden ones for a pop of art in your photos. One of my faves is a big “Greetings from Greer” postcard-style mural – super cute if Greer is meaningful to you.
What We Love: The View, OMG, the View. On a clear day, you can see rolling hills and distant mountains for miles. The sky seems to stretch forever. Photos here feel epic and free – like something out of an adventure elopement. If you two love hiking or got engaged on a mountain, this spot brings that vibe. We love shooting from a low angle to capture you and lots of sky, or wide shots that show you small against the vast landscape (very artsy and romantic). If you’re a sunset lover, this is a prime sunset spot – the horizon lights up and the rock catches that soft pink glow.
We’ve also had fun incorporating the graffiti in some shots – it adds color and shows a bit of Greenville’s artsy, quirky side. Some couples even choose a specific graffiti message or add their own (I’m not officially endorsing vandalism… but a little chalk art that washes away? Could be cute!).
Tips: Be super careful – Bald Rock has sheer drop-offs in places. We always prioritize safety over a shot. There’s plenty of safe flat area to roam without going near the edge. Wear shoes with grip (heels on a mountain = nope). Because it’s a big open rock, lighting is brightest earlier; I prefer meeting here about an hour before sunset so the sun isn’t directly overhead but we still have enough light to hike out and set up. Bring some wet wipes or towel – sitting on rock = potentially dusty clothes or chalk from graffiti.
Also, it can be cooler/windier up there, so a cardigan or jacket between shots isn’t a bad idea. Lastly, Bald Rock is actually a roadside stop (parking is a small pull-off), so it’s one of the more accessible overlook spots – meaning it can attract a few people at sunset. Most folks are kind and will stay out of your shots, but just keep in mind it’s not 100% private. We often walk a bit down the rock to find a clear patch away from any hangout crews.
A Few Bonus Spots: We promised 5, but we have to mention a couple more because Greenville has so many! If you love flowers, consider the SC Botanical Garden in Clemson (45 min away but amazing blooms and landscapes). For a city feel, Downtown Greenville’s West End (around RiverPlace and South Main) has cool modern architecture and street art. And for something off-beat, Campbell’s Covered Bridge (in Landrum) offers a rustic red covered bridge over a creek – adorable and historic.
No matter where you choose, remember that the best engagement photos show you two. Laughing, hugging, being yourselves. The location is the backdrop to your love story. Greenville just happens to have a lot of gorgeous backdrops! So pick a place that fits your personalities (or meaningful history), and you really can’t go wrong.
One last tip: Engagement sessions are a perfect time to have fun and be creative. Bring props that feel like you – a picnic setup, your dog, sports jerseys if you’re fans, a motorcycle if that’s your thing, etc. The more comfortable and you you are, the better the photos.
We hope this guide gives you some great ideas for Greenville engagement locations. We’re pretty spoiled here with choices, and we love exploring new spots too. If there’s a special place you have in mind that wasn’t on the list – go for it! Ultimately, an engagement session should be a low-stress, enjoyable outing with your fiancé(e) – with a bonus photographer third-wheeling to capture the cuteness. Happy location scouting, and we can’t wait to see those engagement pics glowing with Upstate SC charm! 📸💕
