Wedding Trends We’re Seeing in 2025

Weddings have evolved so much over the past few years. In my role as a photographer, I’ve had the unique opportunity to witness these changes from behind the lens, and I’m excited to share some of the biggest wedding trends we’re seeing in 2025. If you’re planning a wedding or just love daydreaming about them (hey, I won’t judge!), here’s a peek at what’s hot in the wedding world right now.

1. Weekday Weddings & Longer Celebrations

Weekend weddings will always be popular, but this year, couples are embracing weekday celebrations—especially Thursdays and Fridays. It’s a great way to beat venue and vendor competition, and it often comes with a nice discount. Plus, many couples extend the wedding festivities into the weekend for additional parties, brunches, or even a fun post-wedding mini getaway with friends. More celebration = more memories (and more amazing photos, of course)!

2. Sustainable & Eco-Friendly Elements

Sustainability is on everyone’s mind, and weddings are no exception. More and more couples are focusing on eco-friendly elements—like using locally grown, seasonal flowers, or offering plant-based menu options. Some brides and grooms are swapping out paper invites for beautiful electronic invitations or using recycled materials for décor. It’s a win-win: you can cut costs, reduce waste, and still have a gorgeous celebration.

Photography Tip: Sustainable décor often has earthy tones and natural textures that look amazing on camera. Think dreamy pampas grass arches, lush greenery centerpieces, or rustic wooden backdrops.

3. Micro-Weddings & Intimate Gatherings

Micro-weddings were on the rise even before 2025, and the trend is here to stay. Small guest lists allow couples to focus on truly meaningful details—quality over quantity. Intimate gatherings create a relaxed atmosphere where everyone can connect with each other (and they’re easier to personalize and plan).

My Take: If I’m being honest, I love photographing micro-weddings. They’re cozy, they’re emotional, and I get to capture genuine interactions between every guest.

4. Bold & Unique Color Palettes

Move over pastels—2025 is all about strong, vivid colors! Couples are going for rich jewel tones, metallic accents, or even unexpected pops of neon. Bold color palettes create a statement and look phenomenal in photos, especially when contrasted with white gowns or sleek décor.

Inspiration: Emerald green bridesmaid dresses, gold accent table settings, or even a colorful balloon installation as a focal point. Don’t be afraid to go bold. The results can be stunning and super memorable.

5. Elevated Technology & Live Streaming

From Zoom ceremonies to creative live streams, technology has become an integral part of modern weddings. While it started as a necessity in previous years, today it’s become a way to include guests who live far away or just can’t make it in person. Couples are hiring professional live-streaming services or setting up multiple camera angles so loved ones feel like they’re right there on the dance floor.

Pro Tip: If you’re planning to live-stream your wedding, chat with your photographer beforehand. We can help recommend ideal camera positions, lighting setups, and more so every special moment looks amazing—both online and in your photo album.

6. Mismatched & Non-Traditional Wedding Parties

Gone are the days when bridesmaids all had to wear the exact same dress in the exact same color. This year, we’re seeing wedding parties express their style in creative, mismatched looks while staying within a common color scheme or theme. Groomsmen might wear different suits in complementary shades, or they’ll switch up their accessories—bow ties, suspenders, or patterned socks. It’s all about showcasing individual personalities.

Why We Love It: The variations make wedding photos way more interesting, and the wedding party members feel confident in outfits that truly represent them.

7. Unique Entertainment & Interactive Experiences

Photo booths have long been a favorite at wedding receptions, but 2025 couples are taking it a step further. Think karaoke sessions, DIY cocktail stations, tarot card readings, or even interactive art installations where guests can leave messages for the couple. It keeps everyone engaged and creates one-of-a-kind memories (and photo opportunities!).

Insider Tip: Fun activities = genuine smiles and reactions. As a photographer, that’s the best time to snap candid shots of your guests having a blast.

8. Daring Bridal Fashion

From sleek, minimalist silhouettes to colorful or printed wedding gowns, brides are getting bolder with their fashion choices. Capes, pantsuits, and jumpsuits are also showing up more often. It’s an awesome way for brides to show off their personal style, and I’m here for it!

Don’t Forget: If you’re opting for a unique outfit, make sure your photographer knows in advance, so we can plan special shots that highlight every stunning detail (like that epic cape flowing in the wind!).

9. Multiple Outfit Changes

Speaking of fashion, wedding outfit changes are becoming more than just a reception tradition. We’re seeing brides and grooms switch outfits multiple times throughout the day—maybe a formal gown for the ceremony, a lighter cocktail dress or jumpsuit for the reception, and a comfy-yet-chic outfit for the after-party. Not only does it showcase different sides of their style, but it also helps them move around (and dance!) more comfortably.

10. Personalization Over Perfection

At the end of the day, 2025 weddings are less about following strict rules and more about personalization. Whether it’s writing personal vows, choosing a non-traditional venue (hey, backyard weddings can be gorgeous!), or creating custom menus, couples want every aspect of their big day to feel like them. And honestly? That’s what makes for the best photos. True personalities and genuine emotion shine through every frame.

Weddings in 2025 are all about embracing individuality, sustainability, and creativity—and I couldn’t be more excited to capture these moments as they unfold. If you’re planning your own celebration, take these trends as inspiration and make them your own. Whether you go big with bold colors or keep it intimate with a micro-wedding, the most important thing is making sure the day reflects your love story.

Have questions about any of these trends or want to chat more about how to make them come alive in your wedding photos? Send me a message—I’d love to help you plan the perfect photo-friendly day!
