1. Gassaway Mansion

Gassaway Mansion is the kind of venue that stops brides mid-scroll. Located just one mile from Main Street Greenville and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the mansion is the largest private residence in Upstate South Carolina — built in the 1920s and dripping in roaring-twenties character.

Ceremonies typically take place on the grand wraparound porch, where columns and lush landscaping frame the couple perfectly. The back garden and tented reception area hold 250–300 guests comfortably. One thing that makes Gassaway genuinely unique: it’s owned by a Christian nonprofit and displays over 1,000 pieces of religious art throughout the property.

Gassaway works with an exclusive vendor list for catering, florals, and coordination — which is a double-edged sword. You won’t have to vet vendors yourself, but you also can’t bring in an outside caterer if you fall in love with someone off-list. For couples who want a more curated, full-service experience, this is actually a relief.

2. AC Hotel Downtown Greenville

If your wedding vision leans modern, minimal, and a little bit European, the AC Hotel is for you. Situated in the heart of downtown Greenville on South Main Street, the AC Hotel puts your whole wedding weekend within walking distance — ceremony, reception, cocktail hour, after-party, brunch the next morning.

The event spaces are sleek and contemporary: clean lines, warm lighting, and large windows that bring in the energy of downtown. The rooftop terrace is a showstopper for cocktail hour, with views of the Greenville skyline. Guests can stay on-site, which is a huge convenience for out-of-town family.

I’ve photographed receptions at the AC Hotel and the light during golden hour through those windows is stunning. If you’re doing a first look, the alley and streetscape on South Main offer some really dynamic urban portrait opportunities. Learn more about first looks vs. traditional reveals here.

AC Hotel Quick Facts

Location Downtown Greenville, South Main Street
Capacity Up to 200 guests
Style Modern boutique hotel, urban
Catering In-house
Photographer’s Note Rooftop cocktail hour is a must; bring your couple outside for golden hour portraits on Main Street

3. The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel

No list of Greenville wedding venues is complete without The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel, and it earns its spot every single time. The chapel sits at 3,000 feet elevation on Glassy Mountain in Landrum, SC — about 45 minutes from downtown Greenville — and the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows are genuinely among the most spectacular I’ve seen at any wedding venue in the Southeast.

The chapel is an intimate space — typically used for ceremonies of up to 150 guests — and the architecture is simple, almost entirely glass on one side to frame the Blue Ridge Mountains behind the couple. Every season photographs differently: summer weddings get lush green mountain layers; fall weddings get explosive color; winter weddings get moody fog rolling through the valleys.

One practical note: Glassy Chapel is ceremony-only, so you’ll need to plan a separate reception venue, typically in Greenville or Travelers Rest. Many couples do their ceremony at Glassy and reception at Hotel Domestique or a downtown Greenville venue.

The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel Quick Facts

Location Landrum, SC (~45 min from downtown Greenville)
Capacity ~150 for ceremony
Style Mountain chapel, floor-to-ceiling glass
Ceremony Only? Yes — reception must be elsewhere
Photographer’s Note Position the couple facing the window during the ceremony so light wraps their faces — creates images you cannot replicate anywhere else

4. The Barn at Sitton Hill Farm

Technically in Powdersville (about 15 minutes from downtown Greenville), Sitton Hill makes this list because it’s one of the most genuinely beautiful barn venues in Upstate SC — and couples who discover it rarely look anywhere else.

The property sits on a century-old farm, and owner Sitton built the barn venue in 2017 with her husband Heath specifically to host weddings. It shows in the thoughtful details: the barn is well-lit, the grounds are immaculately maintained, and there’s real intentionality in how the space flows from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception.

The outdoor ceremony space under the big oak trees is my personal favorite spot on the property. In fall especially, the light filtering through those branches is extraordinary. The barn itself holds up to 250 guests and has climate control — essential for South Carolina summers.

Sitton Hill Farm Quick Facts

Location Powdersville, SC (~15 min from downtown Greenville)
Capacity Up to 250 guests
Style Rustic barn, farmland, indoor/outdoor
Catering Outside caterers permitted
Photographer’s Note The oak tree ceremony space in October is breathtaking — book fall dates early

5. Hotel Domestique (Travelers Rest)

Hotel Domestique sits in Travelers Rest, about 20 minutes north of downtown Greenville, and it feels like you’ve been transported to the French wine country. The property was built around a cycling theme — it’s owned by professional cyclist George Hincapie — but the stone terraces, vineyards, and rolling hills make it an absolutely stunning wedding venue.

It’s best suited for intimate weddings of 150 or fewer guests. The ceremony space on the terrace with vineyard views is one of the most naturally beautiful outdoor settings in the Upstate. The restaurant and hotel accommodations on-site mean you can host your entire wedding weekend in one place.

One honest note: parking and logistics can be tight for larger guest counts. It photographs like a dream but needs careful day-of coordination. Read our full Hotel Domestique photographer’s guide here.

Hotel Domestique Quick Facts

Location Travelers Rest, SC (~20 min from downtown Greenville)
Capacity Up to 150 guests
Style European boutique hotel, vineyard/terrace
Catering In-house restaurant
Photographer’s Note Ceremony on the terrace at golden hour is magical — the light on the stone walls is something special

6. The Westin Poinsett Hotel

If you’ve always pictured a classic grand hotel ballroom wedding, the Westin Poinsett delivers. Built in 1925 and beautifully restored, the Poinsett sits right on Main Street in downtown Greenville and exudes the kind of old-world elegance that never goes out of style.

The Grand Ballroom holds up to 400 guests, making it one of the few Greenville venues capable of handling truly large weddings without feeling cramped. The architecture — coffered ceilings, chandeliers, ornate columns — photographs beautifully and creates a formal, timeless aesthetic. Guests can stay on-site, and the location puts the entire downtown entertainment district at your fingertips for the night before or morning after.

Westin Poinsett Quick Facts

Location Downtown Greenville, Main Street
Capacity Up to 400 guests
Style Historic grand hotel, formal ballroom
Catering In-house
Photographer’s Note The staircase and lobby are gorgeous for portraits — use them during cocktail hour before the ballroom fills with guests

How to Choose the Right Greenville Wedding Venue

Start With Your Guest Count

Greenville has intimate venues (Hotel Domestique, Glassy Chapel) and large-capacity venues (Westin Poinsett, Gassaway). Nail down your guest list estimate before touring so you don’t fall in love with a venue that can’t hold your people.

Think About the Getting-Ready Experience

Hotel venues like the AC Hotel, Westin Poinsett, and Hotel Domestique let the wedding party get ready on-site, which simplifies logistics enormously and gives photographers more to work with. Barn and mansion venues may require a nearby rental home or hotel block. See our bridal portrait prep guide for tips on making the most of getting-ready photos.

Consider the Season

South Carolina summers are hot and humid — if you’re booking an outdoor ceremony at a barn venue in July or August, make sure there’s a genuine weather backup plan. October and November are the most popular months in Upstate SC for good reason: cooler temps, stunning fall color, and the best natural light of the year.

Ask About Exclusive Vendors vs. Open Vendor Lists

Gassaway Mansion and some hotel venues require you to use their preferred caterers, florists, or coordinators. If you already have your heart set on a specific caterer or coordinator, confirm vendor policies before falling in love with the space.

Frequently Asked Questions: Greenville SC Wedding Venues

How much do wedding venues in Greenville, SC cost?

Greenville venue rental fees typically range from $3,000–$12,000 depending on the venue, day of week, and guest count. Barn venues tend to be more affordable; boutique hotels and historic mansion venues tend to run higher. Most venues charge separately for catering, alcohol, staffing, and décor.

Gassaway Mansion and The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel are consistently the most sought-after. Glassy Chapel in particular books out 12–18 months in advance for popular fall dates.

Yes — The Barn at Sitton Hill Farm and Hotel Domestique both offer beautiful outdoor ceremony spaces. The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel is outdoor-ceremony-focused and the most dramatic scenic option in the area. Also consider venues in nearby Anderson, SC if you want more outdoor options.

What should I look for during a wedding venue tour?

Check where the couple will get ready, where guests will park, where catering is staged, and what the backup plan is for rain. Also notice the light — if you’re touring at 10am but your ceremony is at 5pm, ask where the sun will be during your ceremony and portraits.
